BIO
Articolo 31 is one of the best known and most successful rap groups in the Boot. J. Ax (Alessandro Aleotti) and DJ Jad (Luca Perrini) named their new group after the Irish constitutional law guaranteeing freedom of the press. The Milanese groups has dubbed their sound Spaghetti Funk.
Their first album Strade di Cittą is considered by many to be one of the best Italian rap albums of all time. Articolo 31 followed up its smash debut with Messa di Vespiri, what J. Ax and DJ Jad called a balance between the Message, Fun, and Spirituality. The group's Web site proudly announces the sales figures for their albums: Strade di Città 60,000 copies; Messa di Vespiri 150,000 copies; Così Com'è 500,000 copies.
The group gained wide visibility through its appearance on a number popular Italian television programs. Articolo 31's tours in Italy and other European countries including Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, filled stadiums with thousands of fans.
Articolo 31's fourth album Nessuno was recorded in New York and has at widen its popularity. The album's tracks include samples from and the participation of such personages as Italian singers Gianni Morandi and Massimo Ranieri, film composer Ennio Morricone, Bob Dylan, and the American klemzer group the Klezmatics.
Articolo 31 has become a lightening rod for those claiming hardcore status who argue that the group has sold out and commercialized its music. One of the most devastating attacks was DJ Gruff's biting song "1 vs. 2" on his first album that named names and pulled no punches on his anti-sucker assault. The group's lawyers were successful having the song pulled.
