BIO
DJ Gruff has been called a "proto B-boy," one of the founding fathers of the Italian scene who helped introduce and develop the art of spinning and scratching, as well as the lingo of rap Italiano.
Of Sardinian origins, Gruff discovered hip hop while living in the northern city of Torino. He started as both a break dancer and a DJ in 1982. Working in Paris in 1986, he met French B-Boyz like Nicolà, Jaid, and Solò. Traveling to Bologna in 1991, DJ Gruff joined the famed Isola Posse All Stars.
DJ Gruff has also performed other hip hop bands like Radical Stuff, Casino Royale, SR Raza, OTR, and Almamegretta.
Along with Neffa and Deda, DJ Gruff was part of the creative triad that made up the influential Sangue Misto.
Gruff recorded one of the most devastating attacks on Articolo 31 in his biting song "1 vs. 2" that named names and pulled no punches on his anti-sucker assault. The group's lawyers were successful having the song pulled.
Gruff is part of the Alien Army, a group of accomplished Italian turntablists.
