Stop al panico (1) (1991) (original Italian)
Translation by Leonardo Murata-Mastragostino

Chorus
Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop the panic! (x4)

Neffa Beat
Open your mind, shake it to understand
There's no reason, don't wait to die,
Discover the trick, the plan to make you fear,
A city signed by pain. . . Choose!
The right way to destroy
This panic that they want to grow
Try to get what I'm trying to sa-sa-sa SAY!
There's someone that wants us to die
First in the soul, in the heart, then in the body
And someone else knows what to do
Because it's a good time to take advantage
Of the fear created by the gun
Ready like vultures to strike
Flying right by the ground, close up and get out of there
Centri sociali and occupied houses. . . Clear!

Speaker Dee Mo'
Bologna also this time Bologna
Red of shame and blood she doesn't dream anymore
Years and years of bullshit like "happy island"
That hasn't done anything but harm. . .
Bologna's only the hole of the world's ass,
There's he who has had, had and he who gave and sinks
There's he who lives nine people in one room, he who rolls the cash in,
There's he who lives like a slave, he who makes money,
Tangents, he who sells coke
This is the other side of the coin
And here again the dispatches, hidden and the voltage,
The mistrust, the division, the illusion falls, falls, falls into an ambush
A rain of bullets, blood on the paving, but on the way to Piazza Fontana (2),
I am the beast, not these sons of bitches. . .

Chorus

Deda MC
Stop the panic, my position:
It's a move purely and simply of counter information
We don't talk; don't write about a reborn Bronx. . . think it's an isolated episode?
There's no mad beast out there that came out of the night from a mysterious den: The mystery's resolved, the inconvenient is removed,
We have pictures and names of faceless dispatchers.
Pages and pages of lethal alarms
Of apologies, grievings, hypotheses that are all the same
To those who don't see again the connection
There IS a connection. . . it's fear!
Hard from a long time ago, like granite,
The time to scratch it isn't over yet.
Don't ruin words and fake regrets,
Three at once aren't so many after all!

Gopher D
You're the panic, who judges and chooses,
Your victims, your easy targets
NO! It's a price I can't pay,
Put it up your ass, that inquiring finger.
I'm still standing; I react to your blows,
Hypocrisy hits you when you turn around
With terrible removals that don't suffocate the action:
It's the panic that creates justification.
Panic, in the streets between the people,
Look at my face, use your mind,
To melt the nets thrown on who is dying,
On the hundredth house that'll be destroyed.
Listen! The real assassin is the man who manipulates
Your thoughts, your tears
It's not enough to celebrate the pain. . .
Look around you, it's useless to dream!

Chorus

You've listened to the facts, without omission, Attention!
Panic is easy for the guy who wants tension
Think about it a hundred, a thousand times, think about it well,
You never feel sure, never, and it's this that we ask from you,
Who do you have your finger pointed at? Or who is pointing at you?
I bet you fell for it!
This is the purpose of the hidden game
We're not allowed to know who invented it
But who wins or loses is a question of skin
Or of race, culture: it's a fucking rip off!
Because an old game and nostalgia,
Is the nightstick of fucking cops. . . (special)
It's a strategy, who understood understood.
Use your head, give him the finger!
Violence, violence produces violence
Stop the panic:
United is a power!

Chorus

NOTES:

(1) This song was written in response to police repression following the murder of three carabinieri officers on January 4, 1991 in the Pilastro section of Bologna. It turned out that the killings were the work of neo-fascists. BACK
(2) On December 12, 1969, a series of bombs planted by fascists exploded in Milan and Rome killing sixteen people and wounding 100, in what became known as the Strage di (Slaughter at) Piazza Fontana. BACK
