Fish and Tormento joined forces in 1994 to create highly successful Sottotono. (Tormento is Esa's brother). The duo demonstrated a definitive West Coast sound.
Some have accused the group of going "soft, commercial," pointing to their successful tune "La mia coccinella" (My Ladybug) and their ultimate appearance at the San Remo music festival. In 2001, television host Valerio Staffelli accused the group of copying the chorus of a 'N Sync song on the hugely popular program Striscia la notizia. Later, a brawl ensued between Fish and Stafelli during a press opportunity at San Remo, which became a cause célèbre in the music industry. In 2004, the group disbanded. Fish has moved on to become a successful club DJ in north Italy. Tormento is currently performing under the name Yoshi.
