the idea was to let the kids do what ever they want, give them free reign. i kept saying, "if you want to put a cheese grader in the middle of the presepio, go ahead." patriarchal control, artistic conventions, and the miniature's demand for order very quickly exerted themselves. "do what ever you want," morphed in to, "i know what we'll do: a surreal presepio! doesn't that sound like fun?!"
